Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event took place on the third circuit when marshals were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was observing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I approached Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two dudes running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somehow but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a active circuit safety personnel can be authorized to just sprint across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is currently investigating the circumstances

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was advised that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" stated the regulatory authority

"In the third rotation, track officials were notified and made ready to enter the track and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy officials were canceled and a caution signal was shown in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what happened following that moment"
