Shocking Footage Reveals Moment Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
One ranking policeman who rushed to the assistance of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knife attacker was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a knife to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist following a traffic accident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.
"Policeman attacked," the constable was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage made public by the agency depicted Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife extended.
He struck the officer who stumbled and dropped to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the floor even though being continually attacked with the blade.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a clear shot, bringing the fight to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need assistance on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sgt Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster received cut injuries.
Authorities said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders reached the scene.
The new honor arrives subsequent to the three officers were granted internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the regional officer association in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in summer 2024.
"The actions of all three officers in the end rescued themselves and ensured no members of the public suffered any wounds."
Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per officials.
